linear encoder

A type of displacement sensor that consists of an encoder head and a scale.
It uses photoelectric signals or electromagnetic inductions to convert linear displacement into electrical signals.
There are usually incremental and absolute encoder types.
In the case of the incremental type, the output signals include A-phase/ B-phase signals and origin signal.
A-phase/ B-phase signals have a phase difference of 90°, and their output waveforms are sine waves or square waves.
